When key elected officials, local corporations and private citizens want to support communities in our city to remove graffiti, they invest in us. Why? Over the last 16 years, GRRC has cleaned more than 3,500 buildings in the communities of Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village and Bushwick, by using alternative sentencing personnel from the Queens DA, under the supervision of dedicated local residents, using hot-water pressure washers and chemicals that wash graffiti away. We continue to return to clean many of the same locations regraffitied by vandals until the vandals get the message: “This is a neighborhood of law-abiding residents and businesses.”
When businesses, elected officials, and private citizens look for a way to fight graffiti in their communities, they turn to the Greater Ridgewood Restoration Corporation (GRRC). The anti-graffiti cleanup efforts of GRRC, now in their 16th year, make a unique and positive contribution to our communities. We have served as a model for other groups citywide looking to form their own sustained anti-graffiti efforts. Running a successful anti-graffiti program, like that coordinated by the Greater Ridgewood Restoration Cooperation, takes a lot of financial support. Every year it costs us $65,000 to rid our community of graffiti – all raised from the community. We couldn’t do it without the help of local corporations, elected officials, and public-spirited private citizens.
If you would like to support GRRC’s anti-graffiti efforts for 2008, please contact us.
